Rod Stewart on Planning His Final Years: ‘My Days Are Numbered’

Rod Stewart is approaching his 80th birthday this January, but he’s far from slowing down. According to an interview with The Sun, Stewart is starting his final series of Las Vegas shows after more than ten years, reflecting on what he calls the “final run” of his life.

Determined to enjoy his remaining years, Stewart shared, “I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear. We all have to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few – probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

The rock legend acknowledges that his lifestyle has changed significantly since his younger days. He said, “I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s. I can’t stay up all night, get drunk, go mad, and still have a voice just like that.” Stewart emphasizes the need to protect his voice now, adding, “Nowadays, I have to protect my voice before and after every show. The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider?”

Despite his age, Stewart maintains a vibrant energy. “You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians, and I make them drink. We absolutely love it,” he exclaimed.

Stewart’s resilience is notable, given his battles with thyroid and prostate cancer. These health issues have made him more conscientious about his well-being. “I am more aware of my health now than before,” he said, adding, “You should be when you start getting on a bit. It’s very important. I am a bit of a hypochondriac. I think men, in particular, should take advantage of all the wonderful medical science out there.”

He even revealed plans for an interesting health treatment. “When I come back to the UK, I am going to have my blood cleaned as I’ve been told it is a real boost to the system,” he mentioned.

It’s clear that while Stewart recognizes his mortality, he has no intention of letting it dampen his spirit. Instead, he is focused on celebrating life and making the most out of every moment. His commitment to his fans and determination to keep performing, even as he adjusts his routines and rituals to accommodate his age, is a testament to his enduring passion for music and life.
