Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds Gem Debuts in Surprise 2024 Tour

The Rolling Stones made significant tour debuts during their latest show on the 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour. On July 17, 2024, in Santa Clara, California, the band premiered “Far Away Eyes” and “Bite My Head Off.” “Far Away Eyes” is from their 1978 album, “Some Girls,” and was chosen by fan vote, outperforming “Dead Flowers,” “Let It Bleed,” and “Sweet Virginia.” According to Setlist.fm, this was the first time the song had been played since October 29, 2021. Previously, it hadn’t featured in their performances since June 17, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee. While never a staple in their live sets, the song was played 25 times in 1978.

“Bite My Head Off” was performed for only the second time ever and for the first time on the 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour. The original album version includes a collaboration with Paul McCartney of the Beatles. The band last played this track during a surprise show at Racket NYC in New York City on October 19, 2023. That event marked the live debuts of several songs from “Hackney Diamonds,” such as “Angry,” “Whole Wide World,” “Bite My Head Off,” and “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” featuring Lady Gaga.

The Rolling Stones’ 2024 “Hackney Diamonds” tour supports their newest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” released on October 20, 2023. It is their first album of new material since “A Bigger Bang” in 2005. The album showcases collaborations with renowned artists such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, and former Stones bassist Bill Wyman. It also marks their first album since the passing of drummer Charlie Watts.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood are headlining the tour, joined by Darryl Jones, Chanel Haynes, and other musicians. The tour consists of one leg with 20 shows, beginning on April 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas. The Santa Clara show on July 17 was the second-to-last stop on the tour, with the final performance scheduled at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, Missouri, on July 21. Currently, there are no additional shows planned, leaving fans hopeful for more dates.

This tour marks the Stones’ first performances in North America since 2021. Their 2022 “Sixty” tour included only 14 shows, all in Europe. The 2024 tour setlist for the July 17 show in Santa Clara, California, featured 20 songs:
