Ruby Wax Recalls Laughing in Trump’s Face Over His 2000 Presidential Wish

Ruby Wax revealed she laughed in Donald Trump’s face back in 2000 when he disclosed his ambitions to become the US president.

The comedian’s reaction didn’t sit well with Trump, leading to her being kicked off his private jet and left on the runway.

In a recent interview with The Times, Wax recounted the incident and described Trump’s ego as “maniacal.” She noted that unlike most politicians who tend to be charming and hide their intentions, Trump made no effort to cover up his ego.

Wax expressed her concerns about the possible return of Trump for a second term as he runs against Democrat candidate Kamala Harris, calling the situation an “emergency.” She stated that this potential outcome makes her ashamed and worried for the future, admitting she rarely discusses politics unless it’s crucial but believes we are facing “the end of the world.”

Previously, Wax referred to the interview with Trump as the “worst encounter” she ever had with a celebrity in an interview with The Telegraph. She described the experience as “interesting” but definitely “not one to repeat.”

Recalling the unpleasantness of the situation, she said it was terrible to be in Trump’s line of sight while he directed animosity toward her. Wax felt as if his eyes were conveying a threatening message.

She admitted it was incredibly difficult to continue with the interview under such hostile conditions, stating, “Who knew he would become president?”

She retold the key moment: “He said he wanted to be president, and I started laughing. From there, it turned into a hate match.”

Beyond her infamous encounter with Trump, Wax discussed her personal battles and views on the impact of social media on mental health. Having experienced a “violent” childhood and been diagnosed with depression at the age of 10, she is acutely aware of mental illness’s impact.

While she acknowledges it’s a cliché to blame social media for all mental health issues globally, Wax suggests that it has certainly led to a culture of heightened envy. She explained that the constant comparison on a global scale exacerbates negative human emotions.

In an effort to protect her mental health, Wax hires someone to manage her social media posts. She likened the awareness of her triggers to knowing which foods are poisonous, underscoring the importance of managing her exposure to potential stressors.
