Rumor: Josh Brolin to Play Hal Jordan in Lanterns TV Series

After embodying the role of Thanos, one of the most formidable villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, actor Josh Brolin might be stepping into the DC Universe. Rumors suggest Brolin will portray Hal Jordan in the upcoming TV series “Lanterns.” This speculation originates from podcaster TheInSneider and Nexus Point News, but official confirmations are still pending. The series will spotlight both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with no confirmed casting announcements for Stewart yet.

The upcoming series is set to be helmed by Chris Mundy, known for his work on “Ozark” and “True Detective: Night Country.” Mundy will co-write the series alongside Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen,” “The Leftovers”) and popular comic writer Tom King. “Lanterns” will follow new recruit John Stewart and seasoned Lantern Hal Jordan, two intergalactic officers entangled in a dark, earth-based mystery as they probe a murder in America’s heartland.

In 2011, Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan in the feature film “Green Lantern.” However, this new series aims to delve into a more mystery-driven narrative. Brolin is expected to bring a tougher edge to Jordan’s character, contrasting with Reynolds’ more humorous and sarcastic portrayal. Brolin also starred alongside Reynolds as Cable in “Deadpool 2.”

Actor Aldis Hodge, who portrayed Hawkman in “Black Adam” and has voiced John Stewart in animated projects, expressed interest in taking on the co-lead role of Stewart in “Lanterns.” Hodge shared his enthusiasm earlier this year, indicating his willingness to explore John Stewart’s character in a live-action format.

“Look, I’m open for whatever,” Hodge commented. “I would love to live out the rest of the legacy of Hawkman because we had some amazing plans for him. But also, with John Stewart in a live-action capacity. I’ve voiced John Stewart in the animated space for years now. Phil LaMarr passed the baton. Shout out to Phil because I’m a big fan of his work. But if that became a film adaptation, absolutely. I mean, that was one of my dreams growing up was to be John Stewart in live-action.”

In James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman,” Nathan Fillion will debut as Green Lantern Guy Gardner.

Stay tuned for further updates on “Lanterns.”
