Runtime for Smile 2 Officially Announced

The Smile franchise continues with the arrival of Smile 2 on October 18th, and now we know just how long the chilling horror sequel will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. According to Bloody Disgusting, Smile 2 has an official runtime of 2 hours and 1 minute, excluding credits, making it slightly longer than the 2022 original, Smile.

In Smile 2, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) finds herself on the brink of a new world tour when she begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. As the horrors escalate, combined with the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her dark past to regain control of her life before everything spirals out of control.

The film not only stars Naomi Scott but also features Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Dylan Gelula, Raul Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. The director of the movie is Parker Finn.

Finn previously shared with ComicBook that he never anticipated Smile to evolve into a franchise and was taken aback when the first film became a hit, creating an opportunity for a sequel.

“I made Smile to be self-contained and tell its own story,” Finn explained in 2022. “I didn’t think in a million years that there would be such a demand for a sequel. But having said that, I think there are definitely things inside the film that remain purposefully unexplored that would be very exciting to dive into. Additionally, there were elements I didn’t get a chance to explore in the first one due to budget constraints or because it didn’t quite fit in the story, which I think would be very exciting.”

He continued, “I still feel that I never want to overtly just repeat myself or do the same thing I just did, but I think there could be a really exciting way for there to be more in the world of Smile, something very unexpected and surprising for an audience with a lot of tricks up its sleeve.”

So far, only Kyle Gallner’s character Joel is confirmed to be returning in a significant role for Smile 2. Kal Penn, who played Dr. Desai in the first film, has previously indicated that he will not be returning for the sequel.

“As far as I know, I’m not in the sequel. But I would obviously say ‘yes’ if they called,” Penn said in an interview with Screen Rant earlier this year. “That was a blast, that movie. Initially, it was called ‘There’s Something Wrong With Rose’ and it was this lower budget horror movie. I thought the script was awesome, and I’m from New Jersey, so we shot mostly in New Jersey, which seemed very cool. I like horror. The way it kind of blew up, I was so excited and so happy for the cast and the director. The idea that horror fans were like, ‘All right, that’s the movie,’ which we didn’t even think was going to go theatrical, and then it did. So, I’m excited for the second one as a fan.”

The much-anticipated Smile 2 is set to open in theaters on October 18th.
