RVA Baker “Kimmy Kakes” Joins Netflix Show with “American Pie” Star

Kim Thompson, also known as Kimmy Kakes, stars alongside nine other award-winning pastry chefs to compete in Netflix’s “Blue Ribbon Baking Championship.”

Dig in: The show, hosted by chef Sandra Lee and “American Pie” star Jason Biggs, pits state fair blue ribbon-winning pastry chefs against each other for the chance to win $100,000.

Zoom in: Thompson specializes in pound cakes, including her popular “Welcome To Jam Rock,” a pound cake topped with Jamaican rum sauce, and “Crush on You,” topped with Oreo cookies.

• She took home the first prize for her “Dear Mama” classic pound cake at the State Fair of Virginia in 2021 and 2022.
