Ryan Reynolds Adopts Tom Cruise’s Strategy, Sparking Mixed Reactions

Ryan Reynolds is undeniably at the pinnacle of his career right now, with his latest film, Deadpool & Wolverine, inching closer to the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Despite his already solidified status in Hollywood, the 47-year-old actor isn’t stopping to bask in his success. Instead, he’s aiming to emulate Tom Cruise’s strategy of global stardom.

Reynolds has achieved great success with his multimedia marketing company, Maximum Effort Productions, which he co-founded with his business partner, George Dewey. This venture has given him the ability to elevate his career further and plan the creative and executive aspects of each project meticulously. A source told In Touch Weekly that Cruise is one of the only other actors in Hollywood who takes such comprehensive control over selling a movie. “You can see how Ryan is patterning his strategy after Tom’s,” the source noted.

While this appears to be a smart move, not everyone in the industry is thrilled about it. The insider added, “That’s a double-edged sword because he’s often sidelining studio marketing executives who do this for a living and studio publicists with decades of experience.” Despite any misgivings, Reynolds and Cruise continue to generate significant revenue for Hollywood, although taking on such immense power does come with its own set of risks.

The Mirror reported that Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 8 encountered substantial delays earlier this year when a $29 million submarine set piece malfunctioned. A crew member mentioned, “They’re not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day.” Another source from In Touch Weekly revealed that the setback had placed “the weight of the world on [Cruise’s] shoulders,” given that “hundreds of millions of dollars [were] on the line.” This kind of pressure is immense for stars like Cruise and Reynolds, who are expected to deliver substantial returns on the colossal investments made into their projects.

One source from In Touch Weekly pointed out that concerns have been raised about Reynolds’ approach, stating, “It’s Ryan’s way or the highway.” However, given the impressive box office returns, there’s little room for complaint. This success is likely why Reynolds is keen to follow in Cruise’s footsteps.
