Ryan Reynolds Confirms Wrexham Player’s Cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Ryan Reynolds has officially confirmed a cameo appearance in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. Please note, spoilers follow.

Reynolds took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that a member of the Deadpool Corps in the new Marvel superhero film was played by Paul Mullin, a striker for Wrexham AFC. The character, named Welshpool, is portrayed by Mullin. Although his face isn’t shown in the movie, he is seen donning the Welsh flag on his chest. Reynolds also shared filming pictures and concept art of Mullin’s character costume.

You may have noticed one member of the Deadpool Corps was far deadlier than the rest. WELSHPOOL.

Mullins’ appearance in the film is not entirely surprising as Reynolds is an owner of Wrexham AFC alongside actor Rob McElhenney.

In other Deadpool-related updates, the movie has already set a new record for the biggest R-rated film opening, amassing $205 million in North America. This achievement surpasses the record previously held by the first Deadpool movie. Globally, the film has garnered $438.3 million.

The film also holds the record for the eighth-largest film opening of all time. Additionally, it boasts the biggest July opening on record and the largest opening of 2024 so far.

The picture of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is credited to Disney/Marvel Studios.

Paul Bradshaw wrote in a three-star review of Deadpool & Wolverine for NME: “Despite the A-list distractions, Deadpool & Wolverine is really all about Reynolds and Jackman. In fact, it’s really all about Reynolds—with Jackman doing a heroic job of playing the surly straight man trying to keep up with Reynolds’ sweary killer clown. The first two Deadpool films were funny and violent and original, but this one shows Marvel’s most gloriously inappropriate superhero at his very best and worst.”

In additional Marvel news, the company announced at Comic Con last weekend that it will be revamping its next two Avengers films to focus on a new villain. Instead of Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conquerer, the franchise will now spotlight Victor Von Doom—also known as Dr. Doom—played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.
