Ryan Reynolds on Potential Collaboration With Blake Lively

Movie fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, set to hit theaters in less than a week. The film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has already teased some significant cameos, courtesy of Marvel Studios. While some surprise appearances have been unmasked, the identity of Lady Deadpool remains a secret. The character made an appearance in the film’s final trailer but has not yet been unmasked. Speculation has run wild about who could be playing her, with theories ranging from Taylor Swift to the possibility of Ryan Reynolds donning a wig. One popular guess is that Reynolds’ real-life wife, Blake Lively, might be the face behind Lady Deadpool.

ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy. Although the trio kept mum on spoilers, Reynolds gave a humorous take on what it would be like to hypothetically work with Lively in a Marvel project.

“She’s not half the friend that Hugh is,” Reynolds commented with a straight face, an assertion that had Jackman and Levy in stitches. “Hey, we haven’t even started rolling yet,” he added, jokingly. “I’ll get all performative in a second.”

Jackman chimed in, noting that his friendship with Reynolds predates Reynolds’ relationship with Lively. Reynolds continued, saying, “I would love to… You know, in the old days, they all got to work together, hanging out. We got Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn… That’d be nice, I’d love to work with Blake.”

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently addressed Deadpool’s future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With Avengers 5 (previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) on the horizon, fans have been curious about Deadpool’s potential role. The project is expected to feature around 60 returning MCU stars, though it’s not clear if Deadpool will be among them. Feige was questioned on how an R-rated character like Deadpool could fit into a traditionally PG-13 setting.

“Well, I mean, yes,” Feige replied when asked if Marvel Studios has thought about incorporating Deadpool into a PG-13 environment. “And what’s fun obviously about the comics is anybody pops up anywhere. But also what’s fun about the team-ups and a Marvel team-up is it’s almost always characters that don’t belong together.”

Feige drew parallels to earlier MCU projects, noting, “I remember sitting in interviews like this when we were, I think, promoting Iron Man 2, and people knew that we had Thor in production and we had announced that we were going to make an Avengers movie, and people were going, ‘How in the world is Thor, this Norse mythological god, going to be able to be in a scene with Tony Stark? How’s that going to work?’ And my answer was, ‘Well, that’s kind of the movie.’ That’s kind of the whole idea, is to take these people that shouldn’t be together and put ’em together.”

The anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine continues to build as the release date approaches on July 26th. Fans are eager to see how the character dynamics play out and whether some of the prevailing theories about Lady Deadpool’s identity hold true.

Stay tuned for more updates and interviews surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine as the release date draws near.
