Ryan Reynolds Reacts as Blake Lively’s Film Tops Deadpool Sequel at Box Office

Ryan Reynolds has shared his thoughts on his wife Blake Lively’s movie It Ends With Us surpassing his Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the romantic drama beat out the superhero comedy this week, after It Ends With Us hit theaters on August 9.

Speaking with Sunday Today, the 47-year-old Canadian actor expressed unwavering support for his other half, 36. “The only time in my life I’ve ever dreamt of coming in second,” he remarked, adding that it is “the sign of a good relationship.”

The father-of-four said, “It’s always been the constant with Blake and [me]—that we really root for each other.”

Ryan’s comments come amidst reports from TMZ that Lively has no plans to publicly address the rumored feud between her and It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

The actress is reportedly trying to put the tension with Baldoni, 40, behind her. Sources revealed she is choosing to focus on her other castmates and her family.

Justin reportedly felt “hurt and sidelined” by Lively—his onscreen love interest—during the filming of the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, which shares the same name as the film.

Lively allegedly felt “fat-shamed” by him on set and was uncomfortable with a kissing scene, thinking he “lingered” for longer than necessary.

From the beginning, insiders claim there was tension between the filmmakers. This tension only intensified as the movie, which crossed the $100 million mark at the global box office in its first week, was being made.

“There were two camps on the film—team Blake and team Justin. This creative struggle set the tone for the negative experience behind the scenes and grew into them not speaking anymore,” a source told Us Weekly.

The insider continued, “[Justin] was made to feel that his vision wasn’t as important as Blake’s, and it stifled the creativity on set.”

Deadpool & Wolverine debuted in theaters on July 26 and earned $205 million domestically and $233.3 million internationally.

Following the successful opening weekend, Hugh Jackman wrote in an Instagram caption to his 32.6 million followers, “Wolverine and Deadpool is the #1 movie in the world. Thank you ALL!”

Ryan echoed this sentiment on his Instagram Stories, writing, “This is kind of hard to process. But thank you to everyone who went to see the film this weekend… wow.”

Ryan accompanied Blake at the NYC It Ends With Us premiere on August 6. The couple, who married in 2012, share daughters James, nine, Inez, seven, Betty, four, and son Ollie, one.
