EXCLUSIVE : Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind the Evil Dead franchise, has finalized a deal to direct and produce Send Help, a fresh horror thriller for 20th Century Studios.

Although the film hasn’t received the official go-ahead from the studio, insider sources describe it as a two-person horror thriller set on an island. It’s said to combine elements similar to Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway.

The script for Send Help comes from Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, the writing duo behind A Quiet Place. Raimi will produce this project along with Zainab Azizi, the President of his Raimi Productions. It is anticipated that the movie will be released theatrically.

Sam Raimi remains one of the most influential genre filmmakers in the industry. He is renowned for his Evil Dead franchise, with the most recent installment, Evil Dead Rise, grossing over $147 million worldwide last spring. Notably, two more untitled installments directed by Francis Galluppi and Sébastien Vaniček, produced by Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures, are currently in development.

Raimi’s latest directing credit is for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which raked in over $955 million globally for Marvel. He has previously collaborated with Beck and Woods as a producer on the Adam Driver-starring sci-fi film 65, which the pair directed for Sony. Raimi’s directorial portfolio also includes the Spider-Man franchise, Drag Me to Hell, and Oz the Great and Powerful. As a producer, his upcoming projects feature the horror thrillers Don’t Move, acquired by Netflix in April, and Locked, starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins.

Woods and Beck first gained prominence with their script for A Quiet Place. They also co-wrote and executive produced 20th Century Studios’ The Boogeyman, which hit theaters last summer. Recently, they wrote, directed, and produced the highly anticipated A24 horror thriller Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, Chloe East, and Sophie Thatcher, set to release on November 15.

Sam Raimi is represented by CAA and Craig Jacobson and Stewart Brookman at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. Beck and Woods are represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
