Sarah Jessica Parker’s Kids Shine in Rare Appearance with Matthew Broderick

Sarah Jessica Parker’s children made a rare appearance with their dad, Matthew Broderick, on Thursday. The event was the opening of “Oh, Mary!” at the Lyceum Theatre, and the 61-year-old actor looked delighted spending quality time with his three kids.

Although Sarah was notably absent, Matthew stood proudly beside their son, James, and twin daughters, Tabitha and Marion. James, now 21, mirrored his dad’s style by donning a sharp dark suit paired with a white shirt and tie. Meanwhile, Tabitha and Marion, both 15, showcased their sophistication in chic dresses. Tabitha opted for a classic black dress with a square neckline, while Marion chose a floral-patterned dress.

Matthew and Sarah have always maintained a level of privacy around their family life, preferring to keep their children out of the spotlight. However, in October, Sarah shared some insights about parenting in a conversation with Hello! Magazine. She reflected on a valuable lesson she’s imparted to her kids: not to dwell too long on upsetting situations. “I think staying too long in things that are upsetting hasn’t been helpful for me,” she revealed.

Sarah encourages her children to process their emotions but also to find ways to bounce back. She advised, “You should feel upset if you have an unpleasant or disappointing experience: feel it, but what are the ways in which you can resurface? How do you find your resilience?” She added, “There’s danger in sitting in the saddle of blue. For me, I have to say: ‘Okay, that happened – now what?'”

As her children grow older, Sarah has noticed that they seem to need her guidance even more. She expressed, “I’m a mother of three children, and I’ve discovered that they don’t need you less as they get older – they need you more. That’s a dominant, joyful part of my life, but it’s also the thing that’s most important.”

Balancing her roles, Sarah also spoke about her long-lasting marriage and her career. “I’m a wife – I’ve been with my husband for 30 years – and I’m a friend and colleague. And a serious professional. I love what I get to do and the people I get to work with and for,” she explained.

Sarah’s approach to parenting also focuses on raising independent individuals. She takes immense pleasure in watching her daughters develop their unique voices. In May, she attended a reading event in Brooklyn for the release of “Women and Children First,” a book published by her imprint, SJP Lit. During the event, she opened up about her observations on how young girls are often portrayed and react, drawing from her experience with her teenage daughters.

Sarah shared, “I’ve got two girls. They’re not fully mature yet, but when they’re angry or disappointed, they’re not as mean as they might seem at first. Hearing their perspectives is precious to me, especially when I compare it to the narrative about girls being overly dramatic.”

Reflecting on her role as a mother to both a son and daughters, Sarah finds it fascinating to hear different recounts of the same event. “It’s very touching in a surprising way. There’s this rumor about having girls, like ‘Good luck,’ but who started that? Why do we encourage it?” she pondered.

Through her candid reflections and public engagements, Sarah Jessica Parker continues to prioritize her family while successfully navigating her professional life.
