Scarlett Johansson has humorously revealed that a long-standing Saturday Night Live tradition has left her so anxious it caused her to temporarily forget the incidents altogether.

The Fly Me to the Moon star, 39, has been wed to Colin Jost, a co-host of the comedy show’s segment, for over four years. Over this period, she has been the subject of numerous jokes on the show.

One particular segment involves Jost and his fellow presenter, Michael Che, engaging in an annual “joke swap.” During this event, each presenter reads jokes written by the other, often without a prior review. Historically, Che has tricked Jost into reading offensive material about Johansson, which has been quite unsettling for her.

In an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johansson confessed she “blacked out” during this year’s joke swap, barely remembering anything due to the content being “so bad.”

“We need to go into witness protection after that night,” the Black Widow actress joked. “I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be like, targeted. It’s so bad. I black out for that period of the night. I don’t — I actually don’t remember it.”

Johansson and Jost first crossed paths in 2010 when she hosted SNL for the first time. Their relationship began in 2017, shortly after Johansson’s divorce from French journalist Romain Dauriac. The couple announced their engagement in 2019.

They tied the knot in a private ceremony in October 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Less than a year later, Jost announced the arrival of their first child together, a son named Cosmo.

Last May, Jost made a joke on SNL about artificial intelligence software using Johansson’s voice. He quipped, “ChatGPT has released a new voice assistant feature inspired by Scarlett Johansson’s AI character in Her. Which I’ve never bothered to watch, because without that body, what’s the point of listening?”

Reflecting on the joke, Johansson remarked that it was mild compared to other material her husband has read during the annual joke swap. She called the segment “brutal” and noted, “I feel like every year it gets worse, it’s just terrible.”

Recently, Johansson made a funny comment about Jost during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Talking to Jimmy Fallon, Johansson joked that Jost has a minor role in her upcoming film Fly Me to the Moon because he is legally obligated to be in it.

“Greg Berlanti, who’s our director, is a huge fan of Colin’s. And Colin, like, I think he had to do it because it’s, like, in our prenuptial agreement,” she said humorously.

“If I ask him to do something, he has to be there to support me. He has to be in every one of my films.”
