Scarlett Johansson’s Unexpected Revelation About Avengers Group Chat

Scarlett Johansson recently revealed to The New York Times that an Avengers group text chain exists. “But hopefully, nobody will ever read it. Everything goes in there. I mean, really. If somebody’s gotten terrible reviews, that could be something that comes up. The Avengers, we’re like a family. We’ve been through an incredible experience over a decade plus of time. It was life-changing for all of us. If you text the chain, you can guarantee that within a few minutes, most people will respond, which is great,” Johansson explained.

If we consider the original Avengers from the 2012 film, the members on this text chain are likely Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Interestingly, five out of these six Avengers even got matching tattoos, with Mark Ruffalo being the only exception.

Notably absent from this text chain, most likely, is their de-facto manager or wrangler, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). Jackson once gave Johansson and her ex-husband Romain Dauriac, with whom she shares a daughter, bees as a wedding present. Johansson recalled, “We were in LA at the time, but I didn’t realize how much maintenance a beehive is. You really need to keep them.”

Scarlett Johansson’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) began in 2010 with Iron Man 2 where she played Tony Stark’s assistant, Natalie Rushman, before transforming into S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Romanoff. Since then, she has appeared in almost every Avenger-related film. She was part of the first Avengers film in 2012 and teamed up with Chris Evans again in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Her journey continued with the team sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, and she was a key player in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. The culmination of her character’s arc came with the back-to-back finales of Marvel’s Phase Three in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Johansson closed this chapter of her MCU career with her 2021 solo film Black Widow.

A decade spent with the same people forged a strong bond among the cast. The Avengers have become a significant part of popular culture worldwide. The group text chain serves as a testament to their close-knit relationship forged over these years.

Johansson mentioned that forming the Avengers on screen was life-changing for all of them. Marvel took a considerable risk by launching Iron Man, but Robert Downey Jr. made it work. Bringing all these superheroes together in one movie was an unprecedented feat. While DC attempted the same with Justice League, their success couldn’t match that of Marvel’s Avengers.

Currently, Avengers 5 is in the works with the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, set to return. This has sparked speculation about the possibility of Black Widow’s return. However, Scarlett Johansson has been clear about moving on from this chapter of her career. She told Iron Man co-star Gwyneth Paltrow on her GOOP podcast, “I’m done. [That] chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

Even if we won’t see Johansson as an Avenger anytime soon, she is busy with new projects. Currently, she is promoting the Apple Original Film Fly Me to the Moon, co-starring Channing Tatum. The film is the first project produced by her production company, These Pictures.
