Scott Cawthon teases fans with new photos from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Things are progressing well on the highly anticipated sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s. The most significant update so far has been the announcement of its theatrical release date, set for December 5, 2025. Fans now have some behind-the-scenes photos to check out while eagerly awaiting the sequel’s release.

On August 8, in celebration of Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series’ 10-year anniversary, creator Scott Cawthon shared new photos from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on his X account.

The photos feature work being done at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the special/visual effects company responsible for both the first movie and the sequel. The images showcase some familiar animatronics. One appears to be Freddy, another looks like Bonnie, and fans have been left to guess the identities of others.

After building anticipation with these photos, Cawthon returned to X later that day with an even bigger surprise for fans—albeit with a twist!

He posted a page from the official script for the sequel. But he also shared three additional pages, making it a guessing game for fans. Out of the four pages, only one is from the actual screenplay of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The challenge for fans is to determine which is authentic and which are fake.

To conclude the 10-year anniversary celebrations, Cawthon posted once more on X, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the support from fans over the years. He said, “Thank you to all of the fans for making this an amazing ten years, and thank you for being a part of the anniversary today. The outpouring of love for Freddy and the gang has been really heartwarming to see. It makes everything worthwhile!”

Currently, plot and casting details for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 are being kept under wraps. However, it’s confirmed that Emma Tammi, who directed the first film, will return to helm the sequel. Although unconfirmed, it is expected that Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard will reprise their roles.

In a recent interview on the JayBee & Milly YouTube channel, Matthew Lillard hinted at his return. He mentioned that he will begin filming the sequel in October, which strongly suggests his involvement in the project.

Stay tuned for more updates on Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
