Scrubs Reboot? What To Know About A Possible Return To Sacred Heart

nbc

Scrubs, the Emmy-winning medical comedy that aired for nine seasons, might be making a comeback. This beloved show, which featured Zach Braff, ran for 182 episodes across NBC and ABC and left a lasting impact with its blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling.

Recent comments from the show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, indicate that a reboot seems likely, fueled by the strong bonds among the original cast. However, there is no immense urgency due to the current success of its team members. “We’re definitely going to do it, just because we’ve all been enjoying hanging out,” Lawrence mentioned in an interview with LADbible.

Lawrence spoke about his openness to the idea, expressing an interest in exploring both the lives of the original characters and the experiences of current young doctors. “I’m open to it, and I don’t want to do it as a movie, but I’m definitely open to doing a couple more years of that show,” he said. The timeline for the reboot remains uncertain, but Lawrence predicts they’ll “figure it out in the next six months or so.”

Zach Braff, who played the lovable JD, has also shared his thoughts on where his character could go. “J.D. is a grown-ass man now… I think he’s more in the Dr. Cox position these days. He’s the senior doctor,” Braff noted in an interview with ScreenRant. Braff envisions JD dealing with the changes of adulthood, while trying to recapture the joy of his earlier years on the show.

When it comes to the cast, the first eight seasons of Scrubs boasted an iconic lineup, including Donald Faison (Turk), John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Judy Reyes (Carla), Ken Jenkins (Dr. Kelso), and Neil Flynn (The Janitor). Season nine focused on new med school characters, but it’s reasonable to expect a reboot to bring back the fan-favorite original cast. Faison, for instance, has shown keen interest, stating in February, “It’s gonna happen. I don’t know when, but within the next five years.”

Relationships among the cast members seem strong enough to support a reboot. Braff and Faison, especially, have maintained their popular on-screen chemistry through various endeavors, including cell phone commercials.

Even if the reboot plans materialize soon, fans might not see Scrubs 2.0 (or 3.0?) until 2026. Meanwhile, viewers might find comfort in NBC’s new hospital comedy, St. Denis Medical, which features a talented cast.

There isn’t a trailer yet for the potential Scrubs reboot. However, all nine seasons of the original series are available for streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus, offering plenty to enjoy while awaiting further developments.
