Sean Diddy Combs Tried Therapy Post Breakups With Jennifer Lopez, Kim Porter

Sean Diddy Combs once revealed that he turned to therapy following his tumultuous relationships with Jennifer Lopez and the late Kim Porter. According to Diddy, therapy provided him with the guidance he desperately needed at that time.

Two of Diddy’s most high-profile relationships were with Kim Porter and Jennifer Lopez. Both ended under challenging circumstances. Lopez’s relationship with the Bad Boys CEO was marred by scandal and controversy. Eventually, Lopez decided she couldn’t cope with Diddy’s lifestyle and infidelities, leading her to end the relationship.

“It was the first time I was with someone who wasn’t faithful,” Lopez once told Vibe (via Entertainment Weekly). “I was in this relationship with Puff where I was totally crying, crazy and going nuts. It really took my whole life in a tailspin.”

Similarly, Porter cited Diddy’s infidelities as a critical factor in ending their relationship. Diddy’s affairs were a recurring issue, eventually compelling Porter to call it quits because of her unhappiness.

“He told me that he may have gotten himself into a situation and he may have fathered another child outside the relationship. I said, ‘Really? Well, I already knew. I’m glad you decided to be a man,’” Porter once shared with Essence (via People). “I was like, ‘Dude, this is so wack I can’t even respect you right now.’ And for me, once the respect is gone, I’m not even listening to you.”

“I’m a Southern girl, and my home life is numero uno,” she added. “I wasn’t waking up feeling happy. There’s no other way for me to articulate it, other than a feeling. I just wasn’t feeling it, that’s why I had to leave.”

Following these highly publicized breakups, Diddy engaged in deep self-reflection. Often turning to therapy, he dealt with his feelings and traumas, particularly those related to his relationships.

“I’ve gone to therapy for relationships I’ve been in, for tragedies I’ve been through. I think therapy is good,” Diddy shared with Playboy (via Contact Music). “I’ve been called bipolar – I’m not; I just have very drastic mood swings. I went to therapy when Big died, but a lot of my therapy has been with love and relationships. I’ve had therapy about my relationship with Kim, about my relationship with Jennifer. Therapy helped me through a lot of those situations.”

Porter had strong opinions about Diddy’s relationship with Lopez, asserting that Diddy stayed in contact with her even while he was dating the movie star.

“No one knows that part,” Porter said in another interview with Essence. “He was calling fifty, sixty times a day. Sometimes I wouldn’t even talk to him because I was so angry. I couldn’t be ‘nice Kim.’ I had to be, you know, that b****. Like, this is not going down.”

This scenario further convinced Porter that Diddy’s relationship with Lopez wasn’t truly genuine.

“The world just saw the bright lights and the camera. But I knew what was really going on. He was still in love with me,” she claimed.

Further complicating matters, Porter was strongly opposed to Diddy bringing one of their children around Lopez during that period.

“Do you see me? I’m a full Black woman. We don’t mix and mingle like that. I’d kill him dead. So he knew better. And besides, does she look like the type that would want to play house and family with two little Black kids? No. I don’t think it was that type of situation,” she commented.
