Sean Kanan Recovering After Surgery

Please join us in sending healing thoughts to Sean Kanan, the star of The Bold & The Beautiful, who plays Deacon. On July 11, Kanan underwent rotator cuff surgery and shared the news with his fans via a video from his home office.

“Well, I came out of surgery, and the surgeon told me that it went really well,” Kanan said. “We gotta wait and see. But I just want to thank all of you for your messages and your support. It means the world to me.”

Even while recovering, Kanan is keeping his sense of humor intact. “It seems like my biggest issue right now is fighting with my wife about not jumping back into work and getting things done. They gave me a nerve blocker, so we’ll see what a tough guy I am once that wears off. But honestly, right now I feel really good. Eager to start my physical therapy and get on the road to healing.”

The rotator cuff comprises four muscles in the shoulder responsible for rotating the upper arm. A tear occurs when the tendon of one of these muscles pulls away from the bone. This can result from a fall, overexertion, or repetitive wear and tear. The surgery is generally quick and performed with regional anesthesia, allowing the patient to return home just hours after the procedure.

Recovery time after the surgery varies depending on the tear’s severity. Typically, the tendon heals in six to eight weeks, but the patient must undergo three to four months of physical therapy. During the first two to three weeks post-surgery, a sling is worn. Most patients can resume normal activities after a few months.

Following his post on Instagram, Kanan’s comments section flooded with well-wishes from fans and friends alike. An Australian B&B account commented, “Get well soon, Sean. Sheila better do the heavy lifting at Il Giardino until further notice!”
