Selena Gomez Tears Up in Emotional Reaction to ‘Emilia Perez’ Casting

Selena Gomez is reveling in her recent achievements. The 32-year-old singer and actress posted a touching video on Instagram showing her reaction to landing a role in the Jacques Audiard-directed film, Emilia Pérez, ahead of its release in France. Overcome with emotion, Gomez can be seen trying to hold back tears in the video.

“I can’t believe I got the movie, I’m so going to cry right now,” she says in the clip, lying on her bed with excitement and covering her face with her hands. “I don’t want to cry … This is going to be so cool.”

This heartfelt post comes a few months after Gomez, along with her co-stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz, won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for their performances in Emilia Pérez. The Spanish-language musical, which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord (Gascón) who embraces her true identity as a woman, is set to premiere in France on August 21.

The film will also be released in select theaters in other countries this fall and will be available on Netflix in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. starting November 13.

Meanwhile, fans can look forward to seeing Gomez in the fourth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which debuts on August 27. A recent trailer hints at another gripping murder mystery, this time revolving around the death of Steve Martin’s character’s stunt double, Sazz Pataki, played by Jane Lynch. Additionally, the main characters consult on a film adaptation of their lives featuring Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis.

Selena Gomez has also garnered recognition for her role in Only Murders. The founder of Rare Beauty recently received her first Emmy nomination in an acting category for her portrayal of Mabel in the previous season. “I’m honored and insanely grateful for this,” she shared on Instagram, showcasing a celebratory cake that read, “Congratulations Emmy Nominee!”
