Setlist & Video: Pantera’s Club Show Loaded with Extra Surprises

Last night, Pantera performed at First Avenue, a 1,550 capacity venue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, delivering a night full of surprises. This intimate club show was a departure from their usual larger venues and was announced earlier this week ahead of Pantera’s opening act for Metallica’s world tour supporting last year’s “72 Seasons”. It’s notable as the band has been playing much bigger venues since making their return in December 2022 with Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante in the lineup.

Pantera has been the subject of speculation regarding new material, whether that be new studio recordings or a live album. Comedian Craig Gass, who announced from the stage, hinted that this intimate performance was being recorded. This suggests that we might soon get the first official release of Pantera with the current lineup, which features classic members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown.

The night’s 12-song set included a medley and a special appearance by Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. They joined Pantera to provide backing vocals on the classic “Walk” from the “Vulgar Display of Power” album. It’s a song where the band regularly invites friends to join them on stage, making for a memorable performance.

In March, Charlie Benante mentioned in an interview with The Vinyl Guide Podcast that a live Pantera album was something he was interested in. “We talked about [releasing a live album]. We’ll see,” he said. “We record a lot, and it’s probably just spending time with it and see what shows are good, or take a song from this show or a song from that show and compile it for a live record. I would love to do that.”

Pantera’s setlist for Aug. 15, 2024, was as follows:

1. “A New Level”
2. “Mouth for War”
3. “Strength Beyond Strength”
4. “Becoming” (With “Throes Of Rejection” Outro)
5. “I’m Broken”
6. “Suicide Note Pt. II”
7. “This Love”
8. “Fucking Hostile”
9. “Walk” (with Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett doing backing vocals)
10. “Domination” / “Hollow”
11. “Cowboys From Hell”
Encore:12. “Yesterday Don’t Mean Shit”via setlist.fm

Pantera have further dates lined up on Metallica’s M72 tour and are set to head to Europe in early 2025. Fans can check for updates on the band’s official website.
