EXCLUSIVE : Lionsgate has begun production on The Long Walk, the adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel. This new project stars Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson and has added seven more actors to its cast.

The newcomers joining the film are Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon), Tut Nyout (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Charlie Plummer (National Anthem), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Summer School), Joshua Odjick (Welcome to Derry), and Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit). Specific details about their roles are currently undisclosed.

Initially published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk is set in a dystopian America where a grueling competition called the Long Walk keeps the nation entertained. In this contest, 50 teenage boys walk without rest, maintaining a speed of at least three miles per hour or face elimination.

Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) is directing, working from a script by JT Mollner. Lawrence is also producing through his company about:blank, alongside Roy Lee, Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider.

The project is being overseen by Meredith Wieck and Erin Jones-Wesley for Lionsgate, with Phil Strina handling the deals on behalf of the studio. Filming will continue in various rural locations throughout Manitoba over the summer.

Wareing, set to appear on Netflix’s Ransom Canyon, has previously worked on NBC and Netflix’s Manifest, Nick Cassavetes’ God Is a Bullet, François Girard’s Boychoir alongside Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates, and Eddie Alcazar’s Perfect, executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. He is represented by Paradigm, 23 Management, and Myman Greenspan Fox.

Nyout, known for his roles in the Netflix film Stanton Wood and BET’s Dark Money, has also appeared in series like The Witcher: Blood Origin and Small Axe. He is represented by Independent Talent Group in the UK.

Plummer, currently starring in Luke Gilford’s National Anthem, will next appear opposite Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in Bleecker Street’s The Return, directed by Uberto Pasolini. Known for his performances in A24’s Lean on Pete and Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, he is represented by Untitled Entertainment, Gersh, and Peikoff Mahan Law.

Wang, best known for American Born Chinese on Disney+ and Chang Can Dunk, has also worked on Paramount’s Mean Girls musical, Hulu’s Sex Appeal, Max’s Search Party, and TBS’ The Last O.G. He recently landed the title role in Sony’s The Karate Kid reimagining from Jonathan Entwistle, after a global casting search. He is represented by Stewart Talent Agency, Artists First, and Schreck Rose Dapello.

Gonzalez, well-known for his role as Ash Romero on Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, is represented by Buchwald, Mosaic, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
