Shailene Woodley is bringing women’s raw and honest stories to the screen in the trailer for Starz’s limited series, Three Women, inspired by Lisa Taddeo’s bestselling book of the same name.

The series, created by Taddeo, features an impressive cast including Betty Gilpin as Lina, DeWanda Wise as Sloane, Gabrielle Creevy as Maggie, Blair Underwood as Richard, and Jason Ralph as Aaron.

This 10-episode series delves into a nuanced portrayal of female desire through the compelling narratives of three women whose lives are about to be dramatically transformed. Lina, a homemaker in suburban Indiana, embarks on a life-changing affair after a decade of passionless marriage. Sloane, a glamorous entrepreneur in the Northeast, faces challenges in her open marriage when two attractive strangers enter the picture. Meanwhile, Maggie, a student in North Dakota, must confront the consequences of accusing her married English teacher of inappropriate behavior.

In the trailer, Woodley’s character Gia, a writer mourning the loss of her family, is seen embarking on a solo driving trip across the country. During this journey, she encounters the three women, who she persuades to share their stories with her. Gia’s interactions with them profoundly impact her life. “More than I wanted to tell their stories, I wanted to hear them myself,” Woodley narrates in a voiceover. “They all had the audacity to believe they deserved more.”

Laura Eason is the series showrunner, with Taddeo also serving as an executive producer alongside Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum.

Woodley expresses her desire to amplify these voices, saying in the footage, “I wanted to tell the world their story. Our particular pains come from wound sites we can’t see on one another. The thing we can do to understand is to listen, to really listen.”

Three Women makes its debut on Starz on September 13.
