Shane Embraces Iconic Actor Grandfather’s Advice at Home (Exclusive)

Shane Brando was eager to honor the legacy of his famous grandfather in the house of “Claim to Fame.” After being eliminated in the penultimate episode of Season 3 of the ABC competition show, Shane opened up about paying tribute to his roots as the grandson of Hollywood legend Marlon Brando.

Shane was revealed to be the son of Miko Brando, Marlon Brando’s son, during the Guess Off. Competitor Mackenzie pieced together clues about his renowned family member’s true identity. Shane admitted that he knew it was the end of the road for him once his clue was exposed. “It was so stressful leading up to the Guess Off trying to keep Mackenzie from sharing my clue with Hud,” Shane shared, reflecting on his strategic efforts. “At the end of the day, I played my heart out and have no regrets. So when she said my grandpa’s name correctly it was almost a relief.”

Seeing the shock on his fellow houseguests and co-hosts Frankie and Kevin Jonas when they learned Shane was descended from Hollywood royalty was a memorable moment. For Shane, Marlon Brando “will always just be my grandpa to me – watching television in his underwear and teaching me how to play chess.” Shane fondly remembered his grandfather, describing him as funny and knowledgeable, someone who always had the right thing to say.

“I loved my grandfather so much! He was so funny and always knew the right thing to say,” Shane reminisced about the acclaimed actor, who passed away in 2004. “And he knew everything about everything. In his house, he had so many books about so many things and he read them all. In the borders of his books were notes, and sometimes he would even have some things crossed out and would rewrite them to make them more accurate. Simply an amazing human being.”

Shane cherished the games they played at the dinner table, Brando’s balancing act on two wheels of his wheelchair, and his unique style of bongo drumming. The “A Streetcar Named Desire” star was also known for his practical jokes, which always kept people on their toes around him. “I truly miss him,” Shane added, emphasizing the void his grandfather left behind.

Shane carried his grandfather’s acting prowess into the “Claim to Fame” house, having filmed the esteemed actor’s unreleased acting class titled “Lying for a Living” when he was about 12 years old. The experience left a lasting impact on him. Marlon always advised him to “always be true to yourself and be interesting” when performing, encouraging him to keep the audience engaged.

Shane also wanted to bring his grandfather’s legacy of activism into the house during “Claim to Fame” Season 3. He highlighted his grandfather’s commitment to the civil rights movement, Native American rights, and fighting apartheid before his exit during Wednesday’s episode. “I thought it was very important to do so because my grandpa always told me that if you have a voice then you should use it,” Shane explained. He emphasized that Marlon Brando was much more than just an actor, and he wanted to ensure the world remembered that.

“My grandpa was way more than just an actor, and I really wanted to remind the world of that. …He was a beautiful soul who really cared about civil injustice and wanted to be a voice for change. I felt like it was my responsibility to make sure his contribution to society and to Hollywood is never forgotten.” Shane felt that honoring his grandfather’s legacy was “literally the most Brando thing” he could do.

As Season 3 of “Claim to Fame” concluded with back-to-back episodes, fans were treated to memorable moments, including Season 1 runner-up Logan Crosby’s song “Girl Next Door” during episode 7.
