Shania Twain to Host 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards

Country music’s association with the People’s Choice Awards brand enters its second year on Sept. 26, with the sophomore version of the People’s Choice Country Awards airing live from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock.

Following in Little Big Town’s footsteps as the 2024 event host will be 100 million record-selling country superstar Shania Twain.

Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment, stated, “With a proven track record of creating music that stands the test of time, Shania is a beloved member of the country community. As we return to the Grand Ole Opry House, she is the perfect person to help us celebrate country’s finest.”

“Country has some of the most passionate fans in music, and we artists are so lucky to be supported in doing what we love. I am honored to host an award show that celebrates these awesome fans. Get ready for an unforgettable show with lots of big hair, glamour, rhinestones, hats, boots and incredible performances,” added Twain.

Twain’s been somewhat of a Music City staple in recent years, having made an appearance at 2022’s ACM Honors and performing a headlining set at Geodis Park during her 2023 “Queen of Me” tour alongside Kelsea Ballerini and BRELAND. Other special guests included Wynonna Judd and Tanya Tucker for a memorable take on “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” plus sister quartet The Boykinz.

The 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards ended abruptly after only half of the awards had been presented. Toby Keith and Wynonna Judd were celebrated as the “Country Icon” and “Country Champion” award winners at the festivities, while Jelly Roll led all performers by winning four times (Male Artist, New Artist, Collaboration and Song) in fan-voted categories.

The top 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards nominees included the Big Loud-signed pair of Morgan Wallen and HARDY, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson.

What can we expect from Twain as host?

In a 2023 Tennessean interview, the “Any Man of Mine,” “Man! I Feel Like A Woman,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “You’re Still The One” vocalist offered that she feels social media and streaming allow artists to have the ability to discover what she describes as different, “brave and risky” paths to success.

“It’s good that we’re raising the standards for excellence in country music by broadening [the types of stars the genre makes]. Country music remaining exclusive sends talented artists to other genres, which denies country music the ability to continue adapting to pop music’s trends. In addition, great artists no longer have to wait for the industry to accept them for them to be successful. I don’t want country music to lose deserving artists by not properly highlighting them.”

Recently, Twain played London’s Hyde Park on July 8, 2024; this followed an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival one week prior.

Total viewership for the inaugural “People’s Choice Country Awards” was 16% higher than 2022’s “People’s Choice Awards” simulcast, aired on NBC and E!.

The telecast was seen by 4.3 million viewers across all platforms and content from the show reached 25 million cross-platform users (linear, digital and social).

The program—which, in total, was set to feature 12 awarded categories, several honorary awards, plus ten performances—expands the famous People’s Choice Award brand into the country music industry via a partnership between independent strategic investment company Atairos, NBCUniversal and Opry Entertainment Group.

A press release described the inaugural event as “[leaning] into the rich connection between country music and the Opry through chart-topping musical performances, genre-bending collaborations, legendary tributes and surprise moments.”
