Shemar Moore Shares Exciting Update on ‘S.W.A.T’ Season 8

Shemar Moore and his dedicated fans have saved the CBS show S.W.A.T. not once, but twice. He recently shared an exciting update on the upcoming Season 8. Keep reading for all the details.

Despite being one of the network’s highest-rated shows, CBS announced in May 2023 that S.W.A.T. would end with Season 6. With star Shemar Moore’s encouragement, fans petitioned for the network to renew the show for another season. Eventually, CBS relented and greenlit a shortened Season 7 to wrap up the show.

Season 7 premiered in February 2024 with an order of just 13 episodes. It once again dominated ratings, and Moore, who plays Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson, refused to accept the end of the show he’d called home since 2017.

Surprisingly, the network once again backtracked and renewed the show for Season 8, which will air in the fall of 2024. Unfortunately, several fan-favorite cast members won’t be returning because their characters were written off in Season 7.

Dominique Luca, played by Kenny Johnson, was forced to retire after being shot in the chest. Jim Street, portrayed by Alex Russell, transferred to the Long Beach branch S.W.A.T. team earlier in Season 7. The most shocking casting change is the exit of Rochelle Aytes, who plays Hondo’s wife Nichelle. She joined the cast of the upcoming CBS show Watson after S.W.A.T. was canceled a second time. However, she might return in a recurring role.

Shemar Moore took to his Instagram to share an update on Season 8. He revealed that filming starts on Monday. “We fought that good fight and we won! Uncanceled, twice,” he exclaimed.

In a nearly three-minute video, he also ranted about the decline of social media and the rise of cancel culture.

Apparently, a recent social media post by the Young & The Restless alum didn’t sit well with all of his followers. The actor posted earlier this month about a news story involving astronauts stranded in space. He shared a video clip of the female astronaut with her hair wildly around her head. He joked that the hair salon must have been booked up.

Some of his followers criticized him for diminishing her accomplishments and focusing on her appearance. However, many of his followers found the post humorous and defended him for making a joke.

After sharing news about S.W.A.T. Season 8, Shemar Moore turned the conversation to social media. He said that it wasn’t fun anymore because people are always ready to jump on someone for making a joke. He added that comedians can’t even tell jokes these days without being canceled.

As a result of the previous backlash, the actor implied that he won’t be posting on social media as much as he used to.

Fans won’t have to wait long for the new season of S.W.A.T. to hit television. Season 8 premieres on CBS on Friday, October 18, at 8 PM Eastern and streams on Paramount+ the next day.
