Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Takes Steps to Drop Her Dad’s Last Name
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, is one step closer to officially dropping her father’s surname. According to ABC News, Shiloh has published a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times over the past few weeks. This notice reveals her clear intention to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The notice has been published weekly since June 17.
A source close to the family explains that the publication of a legal notice for a name change is a requirement under California law. “It’s the standard language, meaning it’s legally required. She didn’t take out an ad announcing it,” the source emphasized.
Shiloh first submitted the paperwork for the legal name change on May 27, coinciding with her 18th birthday. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share three biological children, including Shiloh and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. They also have three adopted children: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, and Zahara, 19.

Zahara was the first to drop “Pitt” from her last name. She introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during her introduction ceremony after joining the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. More recently, Vivienne followed suit. She was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” when she co-produced the Broadway production of The Outsiders along with her mother. The duo even won a Tony Award for their work on the production.
A source revealed that Shiloh “hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself.” This step marks her growing independence and determination to shape her identity.
Reacting to Shiloh’s attempt to drop his last name, a source mentioned that “Brad has always loved being a father and loves his children.” The source added, “This situation is upsetting to him, and he recognizes that things have been difficult for him and the whole family.” The name change attempt comes amid Brad and Angelina’s long and contentious legal battle over their French vineyard, Château Miraval.
