Showrunner Teases Expected Endgame for ‘Found’

Found season 2 is ramping up for what appears to be an intricate cat-and-mouse game. The first season of the investigative procedural saw Gabi solving cases with the unexpected help of her former abductor, Sir. Her team remained unaware that the man providing them assistance from her basement was the same person who stole years from Gabi and her father during her teenage years.

As expected, this deep secret didn’t stay hidden throughout the season. Viewers were taken step by step toward this reveal over the course of the 13-episode run. Each episode unveiled more about the peculiar relationship between Gabi and Sir. It’s a complicated dynamic anchored by one disturbing truth: Sir’s obsession with Gabi, solidified during her time in captivity, has bonded them in ways Gabi resents but cannot entirely escape.

Season 1 ended on a dramatic note, with Gabi’s team discovering that she had abducted Sir. This revelation may have permanently damaged her friendship with Lacey. The younger woman, also one of Sir’s victims, had changed her name to distance herself from the traumatic past. Like Gabi, the trauma of the abduction has haunted her for years. Now, however, she is once again in Sir’s crosshairs.

Although Sir is free from Gabi’s basement, his plans are enigmatic, focusing primarily on Lacey. According to star Shanola Hampton, Sir’s tactics are calculated, but murder may not be on the table. In an interview with TVInsider, she stated:

“That’s her biggest fear… that he is somewhere where Lacey is. I think that he would threaten, but I think that in his mind there is a version of life that he and Gabi live together — not in a romantic way, but that they’re partners and he has her. And if he killed Lacey, he knows that there would be no chance of that ever, ever happening. Would he torture? Would he hurt? But to actually kill? There’s no coming back from that. And I think that that keeps Lacey alive or I think that that would stop him.”

While showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll advises viewers not to make assumptions about Sir’s actions, his endgame is explicit. Speaking at the TCA summer press tour, as reported by TVLine, Carroll affirmed: “[his] endgame hasn’t changed. Sir’s endgame is Gabi, period.

It comes as no surprise, given that Sir’s obsession with Gabi has been clear from the start. His fascination has been a twisted journey, evolving from interest to fixation. For Sir, all roads lead to Gabi. Carroll elaborated in the TVInsider interview with Hampton, hinting at what season 2 may hold:

“The truth of the matter is Sir is a master manipulator and a master game player as long as he feels he is justified in the thing he’s doing because it’s bringing him closer to Gabi or he’s saving Gabi. He’s capable of anything under the context of, ‘It is something I have to do in order to bring me closer to Gabi. Obstacles have to be removed in order to bring me closer to Gabi,’ and so do not get it twisted. As handsome as Sir is, as charming as Sir is, that man thinks and operates in a very, very scary way and the most dangerous thing for people to do is underestimate it.”

What does Sir’s newfound freedom look like? That’s the burning question, and it’s why season 2 is eagerly awaited. Found returns to NBC on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. ET. Stay tuned for more news and updates!
