Shudder Announces New Documentary Series ‘Horror’s Greatest’

As any horror fan can attest, no streaming service compares to Shudder when it comes to delivering a vast array of classics and pioneering new titles that are destined to become timeless. Therefore, it feels almost predestined that Shudder is about to premiere the upcoming series Horror’s Greatest, a show that will feature actors, filmmakers, and other creatives diving deep into various subgenres to laud seminal works. According to a press release, "The Shudder Original series features interviews with David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Joe Hill (Locke & Key, NOS4A2), Tom Holland (Fright Night, Child’s Play), Jenn Wexler (The Sacrifice Game, The Ranger), Dewayne Perkins (The Blackening), Jonah Ray Rodrigues (Destroy All Neighbors), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Satanic Hispanics, El Gigante), Alex Winter (Destroy All Neighbors), Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), Tananarive Due (Horror Noire), Swanthula and Dracmorda Boulet (The Boulet Brothers Dragula), and more. The series is scheduled to debut Tuesday, August 27th on Shudder and will also be available to stream on AMC+. The series is produced by Marwar Junction Productions, known for creating Shudder’s hit series The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time."

Horror’s Greatest aims to delve into all aspects of horror that fans cherish—be it fresh perspectives on classic films or discovering hidden gems. The show assembles a diverse gallery of horror aficionados, including actors, directors, writers, composers, and special effects artists, who leverage their extensive knowledge to answer pressing questions: What are the must-see films in horror’s myriad subgenres? What inherent appeal do horror tropes have, and how do contemporary filmmakers subvert our expectations? Additionally, how does the genre manifest in countries outside of the United States? The answers promise to span the full spectrum of nightmare fuel that we watch for entertainment.

Produced by Marwar Junction Productions and helmed by showrunner/executive producer Kurt Sayenga, Horror’s Greatest also features Joseph Freed and Allison Berkley as executive producers for Marwar Junction Productions. The timing of the show’s premiere, just before the onset of fall, positions it as the perfect segue into the spooky season. Many of the titles discussed in the series will likely be streaming on Shudder, offering viewers an excellent opportunity to dive into horror.
