Signs Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury’s Relationship Was Doomed

Reality TV relationships often end in heartbreak, and it turns out the cynics were right about “Love Island UK” couple Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury. While die-hard fans didn’t see the split coming, there were signs that their relationship was doomed before the breakup.

Hague announced the news in an Instagram Story on August 14, 2024. “I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way,” she wrote. “I’m extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy’s relationship has come to an end.” According to The Sun, Hague decided to end things after discovering Fury’s alleged infidelity. A friend revealed, “Molly-Mae is now aware Tommy was unfaithful to her… she believes it has happened a number of times.”

The couple was the runners-up on Season 5 of “Love Island UK” in 2019 and moved in together afterward. They welcomed their daughter Bambi in 2023 and got engaged shortly after but never made it down the aisle. In hindsight, it now seems that their relationship was always vulnerable to the reality TV curse.

Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury never really seemed compatible

When Tommy Fury first got to know Molly-Mae Hague during a sultry soak on “Love Island,” he revealed that he focused on superficial attributes when looking for a partner. “You’re literally my ideal woman. You’re a gym girl. You’re beautiful,” he said, per The Sun. The couple was later plagued by jealousy and distrust, both expressing romantic interest in other Islanders.

Some viewers called Hague “Money-Mae” because they felt her feelings for Fury were not genuine. Hague confessed in a YouTube video that joining the show was a “business move.” Psychotherapist Lucy Beresford told Express that Hague didn’t seem to reciprocate Fury’s infatuation. “I think Tommy adores Molly-Mae, and Molly-Mae adores being adored,” she observed.

As the relationship progressed, fans noticed a distinct difference in the pair’s maturity levels. “I think she mothers him, he seems a bit useless,” one Redditor wrote.

One of Tommy Fury’s exes accused him of toxic behavior

In 2019, Millie Roberts, who had dated Tommy Fury before “Love Island,” warned Molly-Mae Hague that being with Fury was a mistake. In an interview with The Sun, Roberts claimed, “He’s really controlling.” She portrayed Fury as possessive, providing examples of him demanding photographic proof that she wasn’t sitting beside male passengers on flights. According to Roberts, Fury would get angry if she wore revealing clothing and accused her of cheating without reason.

In 2022, a Redditor noted, “Molly since LI has changed how she dresses mainly now baggy clothes all covered up. Before Tommy, she wore mainly short party dresses & showed off her body more.”

Tommy Fury’s boxing career caused problems

Molly-Mae Hague was never thrilled about Fury’s boxing career. In a 2019 interview, she said, “It’s boxing, boxing, boxing all the time.” After Fury fought KSI in October 2023, Hague mentioned the stress of the event to her YouTube followers. Fury acknowledged this, saying, “She knows how happy it makes me and that’s the reason why she tolerates it.”

Training for fights meant Fury spent long periods away from his family. Ahead of his KSI fight, Hague said in a vlog, “It’s probably going to be about two months … that we won’t be living together,” noting Fury missed bonding time with their newborn daughter Bambi.

Tommy’s rising profile in boxing — including matches with YouTuber Jake Paul — reportedly made him rethink his future with Hague. “Tommy had increasingly seen himself as the rising star in the relationship,” a source told the Daily Mail.

Becoming parents contributed to the exes’ issues

Tommy Fury had initially planned to quit boxing before becoming a parent. “I want to get these titles won and then think about having some children,” he told The Sun in 2020. However, when Molly-Mae Hague got pregnant, Fury did not hang up his gloves.

In a 2022 interview, Hague revealed that Fury wasn’t living with her because of his training and hardly asked about her pregnancy. “I feel like he sometimes forgets,” she said. “I’m like, ‘You do understand that I’m two months away from — we’re going to have a child.’ I think he has to be reminded a little bit.” Hague found it difficult to see other expectant couples preparing together for their child’s arrival.

After her lonely pregnancy, Hague realized it was even more challenging to get quality time with Fury. “Since having Bambi, so coming up to a year now, Tommy and I haven’t had any proper time together,” she shared in a January 2024 video.

Molly-Mae Hague didn’t trust Tommy Fury

In an August 2023 vlog, Molly-Mae Hague admitted that she didn’t fully trust Tommy Fury to remain faithful. She recounted a moment when they were about to get engaged, and Fury was acting shady about her seeing his phone. “My mind is doing somersaults. I am literally freaking out, and I’m thinking the worst,” she recalled.

In November 2023, fans were concerned when Fury was spotted getting flirty with a mystery woman while partying with Chris Brown in Abu Dhabi. His antics were not a good look for a soon-to-be husband and new father.

While Fury enjoyed himself in Abu Dhabi, Hague was at home caring for their daughter alone. A source told The Sun, “Molly has made no secret of the fact she doesn’t like it when Tommy parties too hard.” Now that she’s decided to end things, what Fury does during his free time is no longer her problem.
