Sigourney Weaver, 74, Stuns with Stylish Look in Rare Public Appearance

With the release of Alien: Romulus, there’s a renewed interest in the Alien franchise, including its iconic star, Sigourney Weaver, who famously played Ellen Ripley.

Although Weaver doesn’t appear in the latest installment, the 74-year-old actress made a rare public appearance at the Venice International Film Festival this week. Weaver is set to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award at the event.

Sporting a Chanel outfit featuring white pleated pants, a black blazer, a black-and-white button-up shirt, and a straw hat with a black ribbon, Weaver greeted the cameras upon her arrival at the Excelsior Pier.

During a press conference on August 28, Weaver became emotional when a reporter thanked her for portraying strong female characters.

“I take my inspiration from real women,” Weaver said. “We were not really getting our due, and to me, women were always so capable and multifaceted. The idea that the film world was only using a small part of our capabilities felt wrong to me. The producers just loved strong women and saw their strength.”

She added, “It’s funny because I’m often asked why I play strong women, and I think it’s a peculiar question since I just play women. Women are strong and don’t give up because we can’t—we have to keep going.”

Weaver also expressed that it brings her joy to think her work might have empowered women, possibly even contributing to the success of Kamala Harris.

“To think that my work might have played a part in her rise makes me very happy,” she shared. “I’ve had so many women come and thank me.”
