Simone Biles, a nine-time national champion and seven-time Olympic medalist, is expected to dominate the all-around competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Biles is also aiming for a team gold alongside Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and newcomer Hezly Rivera.

One of Biles’ former teammates, Laurie Hernandez, is making her way to Paris as an NBC correspondent for the women’s national team. Hernandez, who won team gold with Biles at the 2016 Rio Olympics and also took home a silver on the beam, officially retired from gymnastics in 2021.

Despite her retirement, Hernandez recently posted a video of herself playing around the uneven bars, saying, “should I come out of retirement???🤪🤪.” This playful post caught Biles’ eye, prompting her to comment, “pls give me this cast.” Biles admired the way Hernandez effortlessly mounted herself into a handstand position, adding, “I just need to borrow it for a few weeks 🤞🏾👀.”

Biles’ comment received over 3,200 likes. While she is considered the greatest gymnast of her generation, the uneven bars is often seen as her “weakest” event. However, she placed second on the uneven bars at the U.S. Gymnastics Trials last month and won the event at the 2024 U.S. Championships.

Hernandez responded to Biles, “@simonebiles oh girl you can have it😭♥️,” but quickly put to rest any rumors of a real comeback, adding, “nah I love not having morning workouts anymore I’m good.”

Hernandez, who also won “Dancing With the Stars” in 2018, is delighted to be returning to the Olympics as an analyst. Reflecting on her new role, she said, “It has taken a few days for me to figure out how to put my gratitude into words— I never would have thought that one day I’d go from competing at the Olympics to becoming an NBC Sports Gymnastics Analyst… yet here we are.”
