Simone Biles is gearing up for the Olympics in Paris, preparing to take the gymnastics tournament by storm. While she’s focused on completing a series of complicated routines as part of Team USA, she is unfortunately missing her husband Jonathan Owens’ birthday.
The 27-year-old gymnast took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute dedicated to her husband, who turned 29 on July 22. She wished him a “happy happy birthday,” adding: “Thanks for being the calm to my storm!”
“I love you with all my heart and I can’t wait to see what this year brings! Let’s do it big baby,” she said, expressing her excitement for the future. She made it clear that she was unable to share the special day with him due to her Olympic commitments.
“Wish I was there to celebrate you, but I’ll see you soon!!! XO @jowens,” she wrote to conclude the heartfelt post.
The champion gymnast shared several professionally taken photos with her husband, where they wore similar neutral-toned outfits. One photo showed them sitting next to each other, looking at the camera. Another photo captured them walking and smiling together. A third image highlighted their interlaced hands, with Simone’s engagement and wedding rings sparkling on her finger. The fourth photo depicted the couple embracing and smiling as if they were dancing together.
Simone’s post makes it clear that she is deeply in love with Jonathan, who feels the same way. The football player, who now plays for the Chicago Bears, shared that he was initially drawn to Simone’s laugh. “It was just contagious. We could talk all day and stayed up late, and there just wasn’t an awkward moment,” he revealed in a Vanity Fair profile.
The couple married in 2023 after meeting on Raya and dating since August 2020. Their honeymoon phase was cut short as Jonathan signed with the Green Bay Packers, requiring him to move across the country.
Though Simone is missing Jonathan’s birthday, she has a significant reason to be away—she is preparing for her return to the Olympics after having to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Simone was expected to win at least four out of six available gold medals but faced “the twisties” or “the yips,” which affected her performance.
During the trials for the previous competition, she fell off the beam, flew out of bounds twice on the floor, and failed to stick her landing on the vault, all due to a temporary loss of air awareness while performing twists.
This time, however, Simone seems unaffected by those challenges. She placed first in the all-around, second on uneven bars, fourth on the balance beam, and first on the floor exercise during the recent trials.
