Sinead O’Connor’s Cause of Death Revealed One Year After Her Passing

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor’s cause of death has been disclosed to the public one year following her passing at the age of 56. According to the New York Post, the Grammy-winning artist succumbed to complications from both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This week, her husband John Reynolds officially registered her death, citing these conditions in London.

The outlet further reported that a respiratory tract infection O’Connor was enduring at the time also played a role in her demise. Initially, reports had suggested that the singer died of natural causes after being found “unresponsive” in her London apartment.

O’Connor’s death came a year after she faced a tragic personal loss. In January 2022, her second youngest son, Shane Lunny, tragically took his own life. At that time, according to People, O’Connor expressed her deep sorrow on Twitter, now known as X, in a heartfelt message that was later deleted. “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” she wrote.

Sinead O’Connor is survived by three other children: Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters, and Yeshua Bonadio.
