Social Media Star Nabela Noor: IVF Rights Highlighted in DNC Speech

Social media influencer Nabela Noor shared her personal journey with in vitro fertilization (IVF) during her speech at the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Nearly two years after the Supreme Court overturned the right to an abortion, debates about protections for reproductive processes have put IVF at risk. Noor said she realized how many families struggle with similar fertility issues when she shared her own experience online. Today, Noor has two daughters and reassured the DNC audience that those facing challenges in starting a family are not alone.

The Democratic National Committee convention is being held in Chicago through Thursday, and Vice President Kamala Harris is set to formally accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 Election on Thursday.

Nabela Noor, 33, is a social media influencer known for her content about design, beauty, and her life as a Muslim-American woman. She boasts over one million subscribers on YouTube, more than three million followers on Instagram, and over seven million followers on TikTok.

Noor is among over 200 digital creators credentialed at the DNC this year. Her speech indicates that the Democratic Party is acknowledging the significant impact influencers can have on the 2024 election.

“For many women, IVF is the only choice. That choice, and more, is at stake in November,” Noor emphasized in her speech.

The Democratic National Convention is taking place from August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois. The United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, serves as the main venue for the DNC.

Chicago has hosted the Democratic Convention 11 times, with the most recent being in 1996, when the United Center saw President Bill Clinton nominated for a second term.

The convention will air live on its official website. Coverage from the United Center in Chicago runs from 6:15 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern (5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) on Monday, and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) on the remaining days.

USA TODAY will also provide livestream coverage on YouTube each night of the DNC, from Monday through Thursday.

The DNC has announced nightly themes for the convention, titled “For the People, For Our Future.”

Here are the themes for each night:

  • Monday: “For the People”
  • Tuesday: “A Bold Vision for America’s Future”
  • Wednesday: “A Fight for our Freedoms”
  • Thursday: “For Our Future”
