Soleil Moon Frye Pays Tribute to Late Ex Shifty Shellshock of Crazy Town

Soleil Moon Frye is mourning the loss of her former boyfriend and Crazy Town frontman, Shifty Shellshock, following his untimely passing. Over the weekend, the 47-year-old Punky Brewster star took to Instagram to honor her late ex-boyfriend, whose real name was Seth Brooks Binzer.

Frye shared a series of heartfelt, smiling photos of herself and Binzer, revealing their long history together dating back to their childhood. “My heart is whispering a million I love you’s for the way you loved my children and I so unconditionally,” Frye wrote. “I can still see your smiling sweet face in middle school when you kissed me in your tunnel of love and the way you swept me away again as we grew up to show me what that timeless kind of love feels like.”

She continued, sharing her deep emotions and the unique bond they shared, “No words could ever express the love we shared or how we are feeling right now. It is a language all its own. So for now, I will use every bit of strength you showed me to hold on to those words you asked me in your beautiful morning gravelly voice on the beach while covering me with kisses.”

Believing they will be reunited someday, Frye concluded her post with, “I love you forever and always. Your Moonfire xx.”

Frye, who was married to Jason Goldberg from 1998 to 2022 and shares four children with him—daughters Poet, 18, and Jagger, 16, and sons Lyric, 10, and Story, 8—was first reported to be dating Shellshock in late 2021. She last posted a photo with him in April 2022, though the timing of their split remains unclear. In November 2022, Frye mentioned to ET that her focus had shifted to self-care, saying, “I’m dating myself. It’s awesome.” She elaborated on her self-love journey, highlighting the importance of taking herself on dates.

Shellshock, who passed away last week at the age of 49, rose to fame as the leading figure of Crazy Town, best known for their 2001 hit “Butterfly.” The news of his death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s website, noting that he died at his residence, though the cause remains undisclosed.

In a statement released to The Sun, Shellshock’s family expressed their grief, saying, “Seth struggled with addiction throughout his life, he did so on a very public platform which was particularly challenging. God knows he tried so hard to beat his demons but sadly he lost his battle. Our hearts are shattered by his loss. Seth’s larger-than-life presence touched so many. Seth was a troubled soul but he was a beautiful one and he had a heart of gold.”

Crazy Town, formed in Los Angeles in 1995, quickly garnered a following with their unique blend of rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. Their debut album, The Gift of Game, featured “Butterfly,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 and became a defining anthem of the early 2000s. The track also made its way into the 2002 film Orange County, starring Jack Black and Colin Hanks.

Despite their initial success, Crazy Town faced significant challenges, including multiple lineup changes and Shellshock’s public struggles with substance abuse. While the band released several albums following their debut, none reached the same level of commercial success. In 2008, Shellshock’s battle with addiction was highlighted on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew, where he openly discussed his struggles with drugs.

Shellshock is survived by his three sons, Halo, Gage, and Phoenix.
