Speculation Soars as Beyonce Rumored to Be DNC Mystery Guest

Social media is abuzz with speculation that Beyoncé might perform at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) during Vice President Kamala Harris’s acceptance speech. The excitement started when White House Political Director Emmy Ruiz posted a bee emoji on X, which many interpreted as a nod to the Beyhive, Beyoncé’s fan base, sparking rumors of her possible Thursday night performance.

Ruiz added, “Sorry guys, my 6-year-old took my phone,” but this statement did little to quell the flood of hopeful posts anticipating the star’s appearance. Joey Garrison from USA Today wrote on X, “The White House director of political strategy and outreach has tweeted an emoji. The Beyoncé DNC buzz is really buzzing now.”

Former Obama staffer and podcaster Tommy Vietor chimed in, saying, “Taking this as Beyoncé at the DNC confirmation.” Rolling Stone magazine also reported that city officials and Democratic Party organizers are preparing for a surprise performance.

Sources told the magazine that local law enforcement in Chicago has been gearing up for a possible Beyoncé visit, with one insider describing the situation as “crazy.” According to this source, people involved in organizing the event have been preparing for what they jokingly refer to as “Beyoncépalooza,” but they’ve received no definitive confirmation.

Despite no sightings of Beyoncé in Chicago, two individuals informed Rolling Stone that they heard a marching band rehearsing Beyoncé’s song “Cuff It” on Thursday. Additionally, the artist’s song “Freedom” has been prominently featured in Harris’s campaign. The Vice President even took the stage at the DNC on Monday to the tune of “Freedom.”

Fentrice Driskell, the minority leader of the Florida House of Representatives, added to the speculation by tweeting, “Live update from the @DemConvention: The band is practicing @Beyonce songs.” Writer and educator Sari Beth Rosenberg shared a video on social media showing a band practicing on stage, questioning, “It’s definitely going to be @Beyonce right?”

Beyoncé’s team reportedly approved the Harris campaign’s use of “Freedom” just hours before the campaign’s launch last month. The artist has shown political support in the past, backing President Joe Biden and Harris just a day before the 2020 election. She also spoke at a rally for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and participated in fundraising efforts for Barack Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012, as noted by Rolling Stone.
