The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a significant recall affecting 1,227,808 Ram 1500 vehicles from the years 2019 and 2021 to 2024. This recall is a response to a software malfunction identified within models produced by Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis.
The malfunction pertains to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module, which may inadvertently disable the electronic stability control system. A disabled stability control system raises safety concerns, as it elevates the likelihood of a crash under certain driving conditions.
Alongside the Ram 1500 recall, Stellantis has also announced the recall of 7,299 MOPAR ABS units that were utilized as replacement parts for the affected vehicles.
According to Frank Matyok, a spokesperson for Stellantis, there have been no reported injuries or accidents linked to this issue. Matyok emphasized the company’s commitment to customer safety, stating that those impacted will receive notifications through first-class mail. He advised customers to carefully follow the instructions included in these communications.
The NHTSA has determined that the affected Ram 1500 vehicles do not conform to the federal safety standards that govern electronic stability control systems. To rectify this issue, Stellantis will facilitate software updates for the ABS control module at no charge to the vehicle owners.
Notification letters regarding the recall are set to be mailed out beginning October 3. Vehicle owners can also reach out to FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for further assistance. The recall identifier for this issue is 85B.
The models involved in this recall include:
In addition to the U.S. recall, Matyok mentioned that the Ram 1500 models are being recalled in several other countries, including:
Individuals concerned about vehicle recalls are encouraged to check if their car is subject to any recall notices. While the above information highlights major recalls, owners should verify their vehicle’s status. This can be accomplished through the NHTSA’s recall database, which allows users to search for recalls by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN).
As the automotive industry continues to address safety issues, it remains critical for vehicle owners to stay informed about potential recalls that may affect their vehicles. Quick and proactive actions can help ensure safety on the roads.
