Stephen Colbert’s Epic Call on Cubs Left Fielder Ian Happ’s Home Run

The Chicago Cubs faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays in an interleague matchup, with both teams striving to improve their standings in the 2024 fall playoff race.

Cubs left fielder Ian Happ delivered an impressive performance, hitting a home run, recording two hits, and scoring two runs. His efforts helped the Cubs to a 5-2 lead by the end of the eighth inning. Adding to the entertainment, TV personality Stephen Colbert joined the Cubs’ broadcast, providing some memorable commentary on Happ’s remarkable 473-foot homer at Wrigley Field.

“Give that ball a passport,” Colbert humorously remarked as Happ rounded the bases, widening the Cubs’ lead over their northern visitors.

The Blue Jays, however, did not go down without a fight, eventually tying the game at five and pushing it into extra innings.

The Cubs entered Friday’s game on the back of a three-game losing streak, despite having won eight of their previous ten games. Meanwhile, the team received some positive news about a Chicago baseball legend. Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon also addressed rumors about trade deadlines candidly, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the game.

The Blue Jays were riding high, having swept their previous series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Happ, who boasts 20 home runs, a .231 batting average, and 67 RBIs with a .779 OPS this season, led the Cubs offensively with two hits. Manager Craig Counsell’s team out-hit the Jays in the first eight innings of their matchup.

After this series, Counsell and the Cubs will welcome Manager AJ Hinch’s Detroit Tigers for a new series starting on Tuesday, August 20. Following that, the Cubs will embark on a three-game road trip to Miami to face the Marlins.

Fans have been particularly amused by Charleston, South Carolina native Stephen Colbert’s amusing home run call.

“She gone!!!” one fan exclaimed.

“Wow, he might have a future in television!!!” another fan sarcastically commented.

“That was an absolute moonshot,” yet another fan remarked, praising Happ’s impressive hitting skills.
