Dozens of drones lit up the night sky with an image of Steve Harvey in part of Atlanta over the weekend, with several taking to social media to demand answers for the extravagant display–and now, we finally have them.

To backtrack briefly, the commotion began during the late night hours of Friday, Aug. 23, when journalist David Dennis Jr. shared a photo he captured of the phenomenon on X (formerly Twitter) alongside the caption: “There’s a light projection of Steve Harvey over Atlanta right now and I have no clue why.”

The picture quickly went viral, with many wondering who was behind the “so random” and “terrifying” piece of sky art.

“I immediately text my fam back home cuz I need answers now,” one confessed.

“How did I miss this,” another wrote in disappointment.

Someone else quipped, “A new Family Feud host has been chosen.”

“These are just stars lol,” a different user said sarcastically. “that’s always there.”

Despite fans’ excitement over conspiracy theories that a Steve Harvey-esque bot (probably powered by AI) was here to take over the world, we’ve uncovered the real reason behind the colorful, tech-forward portrait and it’s much more mundane.

On Sunday, the 67-year-old was photographed onstage during day three of the 2024 Invest Fest at Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, so this was likely part of the festival’s planned promotion—something a spokesperson hinted at in a statement shared on Instagram.

Sharing a screenshot of the now-viral post, the cryptocurrency-centered festival joked: “We literally lit the sky up with Stars last night for Invest Fest VIP Night. #investfest2024.”

The official Instagram account promoting the event also offered another behind-the-scenes look at the “future” of drones just one day prior, capturing the moment the devices took off and began to assemble.
