Steve Harvey Reveals What Kardashians Were Like on ‘Celebrity Family Feud’

Steven Harvey and the Celebrity Family Feud family are celebrating a very special milestone! Tuesday’s episode of the fan-favorite game show kicks off the series’ 10th anniversary, which also commemorates its remarkable 100th episode. Speaking with ET’s Denny Directo ahead of the show’s big premiere, Harvey shared his insights on what makes the game show still so special after 10 years.

“I think it gives an everyday person a peek inside of celebrities and you find out, hey, they’re not really smarter than you or they say stupid stuff just like you do. That’s the real draw,” the 67-year-old show host quipped.

Harvey also mentioned that audiences love to see the competitive nature of the show influence their favorite celebrities. “They want to win [and] they get disappointed when they lose, you know? Look forward to it!”

Over its decade-long run, Celebrity Family Feud has hosted numerous celebrities, including the stars of Yellowjackets like Christina Ricci, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Melanie Lynskey, and Samantha Hanratty, as well as pop-culture icons JoJo Siwa and the D’Amelio family, and even the Kardashians.

While Harvey didn’t single out any particular episode or guest as the all-time best, he recalled that the Kardashians’ 2018 visit was particularly memorable because of how kind the family was to the production crew.

“The Kardashian Family vs. The West Family” episode aired in June 2018 and featured Kim Kardashian and then-husband Kanye West, along with three of the rapper’s cousins, making up one team, while Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Kris’ mom and cousin — Mary Jo Campbell and Cici Bussey — and family friend Jonathan Cheban made up the other.

“That was huge,” Harvey recalled of the family’s appearance. “It’s so many when they travel. But all of the Kardashian girls are real sweethearts, they’re really, really nice people.”

The longtime TV host added that the reality TV stars are “professionals” and, despite any rumors to the contrary, the sisters are all “very kind about what they want to say to each other.”

“To the staff and to the PAs and all the people there to help, they’re very good,” he noted.

But when it comes to celebrities who manage to top the competition, Harvey insisted that athletes usually come out as reigning champions.

“They’re very competitive,” he pointed out. “This season we’re gonna have NFL legends playing against the Olympians, and they’re competitive. Them volleyball girls were not playing! They were serious business.”

Season 10 will be packed with impressive guests and their families, including Megan Thee Stallion, Ne-Yo, Meghan Trainor, Tori Kelly, and more.

When asked about the show’s secret for success, Harvey doesn’t credit the star-studded guest lists or their hilarious attempts to answer questions, although the latter is part of it. The comedian emphasizes that a lot of the show’s appeal comes down to his unfiltered self.

“‘Cause what I did on this game show was what I have never seen before… All I do is say what everybody else at home is thinking,” he told ET. “I said nobody else does a game show that way, you know? They play the game and that’s it, but I kind of turn it into something else and I’m very fortunate that ABC let me do it that way.”

Celebrity Family Feud season 10 premieres Tuesday, July 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
