“Strange New Worlds” Casts Cillian O’Sullivan as Roger Korby for Season 3

When “Strange New Worlds” returns for its third season, expected in 2025, fans are in for an emotional journey. Nurse Christine Chapel will face serious heartbreak with the introduction of Dr. Roger Korby, played by Cillian O’Sullivan. Korby is a character from the original “Star Trek” series.

Alongside Korby, another familiar face from the original series will grace the screen. Martin Quinn, who appeared briefly in the Season 2 finale, will return as Montgomery Scott. He is now a full-time crew member of the Enterprise.

This exciting news was unveiled during the “Star Trek Universe” Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. In the original series, Dr. Roger Korby made his debut in the Season 1 episode titled “What Little Girls Are Made Of,” played by Michael Strong. This episode put the spotlight on Christine Chapel, originally portrayed by Majel Barrett.

In this classic episode, the Enterprise searches for Korby, Chapel’s long-lost former fiancé. Chapel had joined the Enterprise with hopes of finding him. The crew discovers that Korby had unearthed the ruins of an ancient civilization that had perfected the technology to create androids. Korby has been using this technology to create more androids for himself.

Eventually, it is revealed that Korby’s human body had perished long ago. The Enterprise crew has been interacting with an android into which Korby had uploaded his consciousness. Driven mad, Korby destroys himself, leading Nurse Chapel to decide to remain with the crew.

Given that “Strange New Worlds” is set about a decade before the original series, these events are still far ahead for Nurse Chapel. The upcoming season will likely explore how her ill-fated relationship with Korby began.

However, it’s not all gloom and doom for the crew under Christopher Pike. They will also embark on some lighter adventures. A clip shown to the crowd during the panel depicted a humorous situation where several crew members are transformed into Vulcans, and it turns out they can’t be changed back, much to Spock’s dismay.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn. Special guest stars include Paul Wesley and Carol Kane.

The show is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment. The executive producers are Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Jenny Lumet, Henry Alonso Myers, Aaron Baiers, Dana Horgan, Davy Perez, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.
