Study Reveals Wyoming’s Most Patriotic Movie

Many studies claim to represent entire states or countries, but often, the validity of these studies is questionable. Typically, such studies base their results on a small sample size, sometimes as low as 3,000 participants, which isn’t truly representative of a population as large as over 335,000,000 people in the U.S.

One such study has sparked debate by revealing each state’s most popular patriotic movie. According to the study, Wyoming aligns with 24 other states in selecting the 1986 blockbuster “Top Gun” as its top patriotic film.

“Top Gun” indeed evokes a sense of patriotism, making viewers feel invigorated and patriotic, often stirring a desire to fly fighter jets while waving the American flag. Yet, the question remains: is it truly the most popular patriotic movie for Wyomingites?

According to the study, Wyoming’s top five patriotic movies include “Top Gun” along with four other films from the 1990s. These include iconic movies such as “Saving Private Ryan” and “Independence Day.” While these selections seem fitting within the patriotic genre, the inclusion of “The Sandlot” and “Forrest Gump” raises some eyebrows.

While baseball is considered America’s pastime, does a movie about kids playing baseball like “The Sandlot” truly qualify as a patriotic film? Similarly, while “Forrest Gump” touches various poignant moments in American history, does it encapsulate patriotism?

If asked to create a list of patriotic movies, several other titles come to mind that may be better suited than “The Sandlot” or “Forrest Gump.” Some notable suggestions include:

  • American Sniper
  • Lone Survivor
  • Hacksaw Ridge
  • The Patriot
  • Red Dawn
  • Zero Dark Thirty
  • Patton
  • Rocky IV
  • Air Force One
  • Miracle
  • Top Gun: Maverick

It would be interesting to get a more accurate representation of what movies Wyomingites indeed consider the most patriotic. A local study could shed more light on this preference. If you wish to participate in such a study, feel free to share your top five choices for the most patriotic movies.
