Submissions Open for the 97th Oscars in 2025

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially opened its website for submissions to be considered for the 2025 Oscars, as announced on Friday.

The Academy is now accepting submissions for various categories including best picture, animated features, animated shorts, documentary features, documentary shorts, international features, live action shorts, original scores, and original songs.

Submissions have different deadlines between August 15 and November 14, depending on their categories and the dates of their qualifying runs. General entries, animated features, documentary features, and short films have two separate deadlines depending on whether they qualified before or after July 1.

The upcoming 97th Oscars are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Early contenders feature an eclectic mix including spring indie film Challengers, summer blockbuster Inside Out 2, as well as Cannes standouts like Anora, Emilia Pérez, and The Substance. Sing Sing, a drama opening today, also joins the fray of early hopefuls.

Earlier this year, the 2024 Oscars took place in March and saw Oppenheimer earning the best picture award along with six other accolades. Christopher Nolan won best director, while Cillian Murphy took home best actor, and Robert Downey Jr. secured best supporting actor. Emma Stone was awarded best actress for Poor Things and Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress for her role in The Holdovers.
