Superman & Lois EPs Tease Satisfying Returns and New Jimmy Olsen in Final Season

The Man of Steel’s alleged “death” is casting a significant shadow over the upcoming fourth and final season of Superman & Lois, so we thought we’d shift gears by sharing a bit of good news for a change.

Though only five actors — Tyler Hoechlin (Clark), Bitsie Tulloch (Lois), Alex Garfin (Jordan), Michael Bishop (Jonathan) and Michael Cudlitz (Lex Luthor) — are returning as full-fledged series regulars, TVLine can confirm that none of your Smallville favorites will be left behind when the show returns with its two-hour premiere on Oct. 17.

“They all came back, and we made sure to give everyone who had been a regular on the series a closing out to their character arcs,” executive producer Brett Fletcher told TVLine’s Keisha Hatchett at San Diego Comic-Con. “They all get a real story … and you kind of know where they are into the future.”

Executive producer Todd Helbing added that “Smallville really becomes a massive character this season in a way it hadn’t been in the first three. All of the other townsfolk that you’ve gotten to know, you get to know a little bit more.”

In addition to seeing plenty of familiar faces in Season 4, Superman & Lois will also be introducing a new version of Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, played by Douglas Smith.

Rather than making him a “super quirky, dorky photographer guy,” as he’s represented in many adaptations, Helbing explained that Superman & Lois’ Jimmy is “the life of the party. He’s the guy that everybody at the office loves.”

“Everybody wants to be Jimmy Olsen’s friend, especially Clark Kent,” Fletcher added. “So we have a story developed around that dynamic.”
