Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ daughter Tallulah has shared a candid photo highlighting her battle with a skin-picking disorder.

The 30-year-old took to Instagram, sharing a close-up image from three years ago along with a comforting message for anyone facing similar challenges.

“Old pic, but just out here trying to shout to the roof tops that picking HAPPENS!!! And honestly it can be beautiful?” she wrote.

“So next time you have a blackout and come to with a plethora of little scabby spots, give yourself some gentility!! Pls! Thank you,” Tallulah added.

She urged her followers to check out @pickingmefdn for resources and support tools, ending her message with: “Love yous #2021 #pickingrecovery #ocdawareness #dermatillomania.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, skin-picking disorder, also known as dermatillomania or excoriation disorder, is a mental health condition causing people to compulsively pick at their skin.

Tallulah has been battling this disorder for years. In June, she shared before-and-after photos showing her skin’s “healing” process.

The ‘before’ image displayed red, scabbed-over blemishes on her mouth, chin, cheeks, and forehead. The ‘after’ photo presented a clearer complexion with a more even skin tone.

“PICKING HAPPENS!! And then healing **can ** happen,” she captioned the images.

“Healing doesn’t have to mean clear skin, and it doesn’t mean intrusive thoughts stop intruding, and it doesn’t mean you’re not gonna do it again. It’s small wins.” Tallulah emphasized the sense of community in the struggle and expressed a strong desire to help others achieve their own “wins”.

She initially shared her diagnosis in 2021, posting similar before-and-after photos of her skin. “Skin Updates from an antsy handed chronic picker!” she wrote, celebrating four months of not touching her face with “grubby nails”.

Recently, Tallulah revealed she has been diagnosed with autism. In March, she shared a throwback video with her father, Bruce Willis, depicting a moment from the red carpet premiere of his 2004 film “The Whole Ten Yards”.

She captioned the post: “Tell me [you’re] autistic without telling me [you’re] autistic.”

When asked by her followers about the diagnosis, Tallulah disclosed it was the first time she’d publicly shared this information. “Found out this summer and it’s changed my life,” she replied.

According to UCLA Health, it’s common for autism to go undiagnosed in women well into adulthood. Historically, most autism research focused on male participants, leading experts to consider it a largely “male” condition for decades.

Today, boys and men are still four times as likely as girls and women to receive an autism diagnosis. Experts, however, believe as many females as males have autism. Recent research indicates that nearly 80% of autistic females go undiagnosed by age 18, highlighting the need for more inclusive studies and awareness.
