Taylor Swift subtly hinted at Travis Kelce’s presence in Amsterdam crowd

Taylor Swift made a subtle nod to Travis Kelce during her Amsterdam show on Friday, July 5, before delighting fans with his actual appearance. Performing at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Swift introduced some changes in her lyrics and gestures that hinted at the NFL star’s presence in the audience.

One of these nods was a lyric change in her song “Karma.” The original lyrics, “Karma is the guy on the screen/Coming straight home to me,” were tweaked to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs/Coming straight home to me,” referencing Kelce’s NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs. This isn’t the first time Swift has altered the lyrics, but combined with other gestures, fans quickly caught on. A fan’s video captured this charming moment.

In another subtle homage to Kelce, Swift mimicked his signature archery pose during her performance of “The Archer.” Kelce is known for doing this pose when he walks into the stadium on game day. Fan footage shows Swift pulling off the move, adding a layer of intimacy to the performance. This wasn’t the first time she adopted Kelce’s gesture; she previously did it during her second tour stop in Dublin last month while performing “Midnight Rain.”

Kelce himself has explained why he uses the archery pose. In an October 2023 episode of his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, he shared, “I always wanted to do something when I ran out of the tunnel. I’m like, ‘Man, you know what’s really been motivating for me?’ It’s to always dream big [and] always shoot for the stars, so I’m just out there shooting for the stars, baby.”

Towards the end of Swift’s Amsterdam show, another fan video caught Kelce as he left the crowd to go backstage and meet Swift, much to the delight of their fans.

Speaking of their on-stage collaboration, last month Kelce took his participation to another level at Swift’s Wembley Stadium concert. He surprised the audience by joining Swift on stage during her performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Dressed in a tuxedo and top hat, the NFL star captivated the crowd as he swooped Swift off her feet and carried her away, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.

Kelce discussed his experience on stage with Swift during a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast. He revealed that he had one primary rule for himself while performing. “The one thing I told myself was ‘Do not drop the baby,’” Kelce shared with his brother Jason, referring to Swift. “‘Do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch.’”
