Taylor Swift’s Concerts Inspire M. Night Shyamalan’s New Movie

M. Night Shyamalan has disclosed a rather surprising source of inspiration for his next film: Taylor Swift’s concerts.

The Oscar-nominated director discussed the concept behind his upcoming film Trap during a recent interview with Empire. This thriller is set to hit theaters next month.

In a succinct pitch, the 53-year-old filmmaker stated: “What if The Silence of the Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?”

The trailer for Trap, released earlier this month, reveals that the film centers around a father and daughter attending a packed concert to see the fictional pop star Lady Raven. The father, played by Josh Hartnett, discovers that the police are closely surveilling the concertgoers in hopes of capturing a serial killer known as “The Butcher,” who the trailer hints may be Hartnett’s character.

Along with its Eras Tour-style setting and psychological thriller elements reminiscent of the 1991 classic The Silence of the Lambs, Shyamalan mentioned that his film also drew inspiration from a real 1985 police sting operation. Beyond its dramatic themes, the Sixth Sense director seemed to relish crafting a concert specifically for the film.

“One of the reasons to come see the movie in the theater is because there’s literally a real concert that you can see nowhere except in that movie,” he told Empire.

The character Lady Raven, portrayed by Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka, appears to mirror Swift’s immense popularity. Swift’s Eras Tour, which began over a year ago, has been a massive success, breaking several audience records at each stop around the globe.

Most recently, the pop sensation performed three back-to-back nights in the Netherlands. This week, she will take her tour to Zürich, Switzerland, for a couple of shows.
