Teaser Trailer for Skeleton Crew Released at D23

Disney+ has officially unveiled the first trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Starring Jude Law, the series aims to be a young adult version of Star Wars, set against a backdrop that feels more suburban rather than the traditional farms and battlefields of previous Star Wars ventures. This fresh take gives off a vibe reminiscent of Amblin films like E.T. or The Goonies, but transplanted into the iconic galaxy far, far away. Will this new direction resonate with fans? As has often been the case recently in the Star Wars universe, only time will tell.

Besides Jude Law, the talent onboard Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is impressive. Fan-favorite Star Wars veteran Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct an episode. Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost will also make an appearance, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts will serve as the showrunner. Watts, who recently shared a first look at his new film Wolfs, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, finds himself in an enviable position as that movie has already secured a sequel before its official premiere.

Earlier this year, Jude Law, hinted at the abundance of easter eggs hidden in the show. “If you look carefully, [we] got some Star Wars tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film. They do [easter eggs] so well. That’s one of the joys I think of this universe for those who know there are these little details always hidden away or easter eggs that people can find and link up,” Law stated.

Jon Watts also confirmed that the series will feature plenty of easter eggs. “I can’t wait … I mean, even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize,” he said.

Watts emphasized that the show is designed to be accessible to everyone, not just die-hard Star Wars fans. “You don’t have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show,” he explained. “You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there’s a lot for you.”

According to the official synopsis, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet. They soon find themselves lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Their quest to find their way back home will lead them to encounter unlikely allies and formidable enemies, setting the stage for an adventure greater than they could have ever imagined.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to see how this new Star Wars experience unfolds. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set to premiere on December 3rd, and more updates are expected as the release date approaches.
