Terminator’s New AI Villain May Transform Everything About T2

“Terminator 2” concluded with Sarah (Linda Hamilton) and John Connor (Edward Furlong) seemingly averting a nuclear apocalypse set in motion by Skynet. However, “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” revealed that they only postponed the inevitable destruction. In the upcoming “Terminator Zero,” the storyline occurs in 1997, hinting that Judgment Day is imminent, while another timeline set in 2022 depicts the ongoing war between humans and Skynet.

The plot thickens when Skynet sends a Terminator to eliminate Malcolm to prevent the existence of Kokoro, a new AI. Simultaneously, the Resistance strives to protect Malcolm and evade the launch of Kokoro. This situation indicates that Kokoro could become a formidable entity for both sides. Unlike Skynet, which views humanity as a species to eradicate, Kokoro might emerge as a significantly more peaceful presence.

According to Netflix’s official description, Malcolm grapples with the moral intricacies of introducing Kokoro to the world. His struggle mirrors the character Miles Dyson (Joe Morton) from “Terminator 2,” who played a crucial role in the creation of Skynet and later joined forces with Sarah and her team to destroy Cyberdyne. Malcolm’s journey could provide a fresh take on the “creator with good intentions” trope. Although he desires an AI that opposes Skynet, he might inadvertently cause more harm than good.

Whether Kokoro turns out to be a friend or foe, “Terminator Zero” has the potential to add intriguing layers to the franchise’s lore. Fans eagerly await the series, premiering on Netflix on August 29.
