Terri Stewart, an experienced newsroom leader, serves as the senior vice president of newsgathering for CBS News and Stations. In her role, she oversees the division’s day-to-day editorial operations.

As an award-winning journalist, Stewart manages CBS News’ newsgathering initiatives. She also supervises the news hubs that support the organization’s community journalism programs. Moreover, she is focused on the development of a cross-division news coverage desk.

Stewart’s career spans decades and includes covering significant news events such as political campaigns, terrorist attacks, wars, mass shootings, and natural disasters. Since joining CBS News in 1981, she has held various critical newsgathering roles, skillfully coordinating correspondents and production teams for breaking news and developing end pieces for broadcasts.

Before assuming her current position, Stewart was the senior vice president and national executive editor for CBS News. In this role, she worked with all CBS News broadcasts and bureaus, managing hard news and special event coverage, while also collaborating closely with CBS Stations.

Earlier in her CBS News career, Stewart served as the northeast bureau chief, overseeing news coverage from Maine to Delaware and in the Midwest. She also held the position of deputy bureau chief.

From 1988 to 1992, Stewart worked in the political unit and was a senior producer at Newspath. She was among the first group of campaign embeds covering the 1988 presidential race for CBS News.

Stewart began her career at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, where she produced talk shows before being promoted to the assignment desk.

She is currently based in New York.
